What is Idealism and Why You Should Care
A Practical Guide to Reality and Spirituality
Have you ever questioned what reality is really made of? Is it something that already existing without our brains having anything to do with it, or is it something we make up via our ideas and perceptions? Is reality just materialistic, or does it also include a spiritual component?
A philosophical concept called idealism seeks to address questions like these.
The concept that ideas are the ultimate form of reality or have the strongest claim to being regarded as "real" is known as idealism. It is the belief that reality is akin to mind, spirit, or awareness. In both Western and Eastern philosophy, idealism has a long and rich history that dates back to antiquity. Plato, Berkeley, Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Bradley, Royce, and many others are among the most important idealist philosophers.
Idealism questions some of the presumptions we hold about the universe and ourselves. It challenges us to reconsider how we view reality and to consider the potential of our mind and soul. The following are some advantages of taking an idealist viewpoint:
You can get over skepticism and nihilism by being idealistic. If our minds determine reality, then we have more power over how we see it. We have the option to choose to concentrate on life's good parts, give our lives meaning and purpose, and develop amazement and wonder. When confronted with the constraints or challenges of the material world, we can also resist giving in to hopelessness or pessimism.
Idealism can inspire you to seek higher knowledge and wisdom. If ideas are the ultimate reality, then we have a duty to pursue them and to understand them. We can use our reason, intuition, imagination, and creativity to explore the depths of reality and to discover its hidden secrets. We can also learn from the great idealist philosophers who have offered their insights and arguments on various topics such as metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, religion, and politics.
You may grow spiritually and religiously via idealism. If reality is the same as spirit or awareness, then we are connected to something more than ourselves. It is possible for us to understand that we are a part of a much broader totality that is not limited by space or time, rather than being in isolation. As a reflection of God's or the Absolute's limitless intelligence, we may also appreciate how diverse and beautiful creation is. The Absolute, often known as God, is the creator and sustainer of all things and is someone we may get to know personally.
